Archival Resources in Lambton County

Archival records can be held in many different institutions. While the Lambton County Archives holds a large collection of genealogical and local history records, there are other local institutions which have archival collections as well. These institutions should be contacted in addition to the Lambton County Archives when conducting research to ensure that you have exhausted all local resources.

1)    Museums

There are many local museums which have archival documents in their collections. These collections supplement their artifact collections and represent the community in which the museum is located. Documents, photos, family histories, and local history books can all be held at local museums.

2)    Libraries

Many local libraries have a local history section in the branch. These sections are representative of the community in which the library is located and may contain rich resources on the community's history. Newspaper clippings, photographs, and local history books can be found in local libraries.

3)    First Nations Resources

First Nations communities also have local history and genealogical information and resources in their communities. Information may be held at a local library or at the band office.

4)    Genealogical Organizations & Facilities

There are also local genealogical organizations and facilities which can assist you with your genealogy research. From indexing local resources to make them more accessible to other researchers, offering instructional sessions, and operating research facilities, local genealogical organizations are a great resource for family tree research.
